Anacostia Lodge has three special events coming up in May. Your officers and I encourage you to participate in all to the extent your cable tow permits.
First up is the Stated Communication on Monday, May 6th, when for the first time in many years we will be conferring the Entered Apprentice degree upon three of our own candidates. Please come and help initiate Darnell Davis, Brandon Laveau and Brian Rothe to the Craft. Five other candidates – two from Naval Lodge No. 4 and three from Temple-Noyes-Cathedral No. 32 – will also receive their degrees simultaneously. A good showing is important for each of the candidates, and for our Lodge!
On Wednesday, May 15th we’ll host St. John’s No. 11 for a joint Table Lodge featuring Bro. Michael “Mike” Berry from Louisville, Kentucky, CEO of the Kentucky Derby Festival. Cocktails will be served beginning at 6:00 pm, followed by a catered meal. Our Master of Ceremonies for the evening will be Most Worshipful Brother Joseph Crociata. Dinner will take place in the 7th floor Lodge Room at 419 7th St NW. Please use Metro, Uber, Lyft, or taxis as there will be the usual series of toasts during the evening. Worshipful Brother Sean Parkhurst of St. John’s and I look forward to a great evening with you that Wednesday, so purchase your tickets now by clicking here. We fully anticipate a sell-out!
Finally, as you may know Anacostia Lodge is a sponsor of the D.C. Grays, a youth baseball program operating each summer at the Washington Nationals practice facility in Southeast Washington as part of the Cal Ripken League. Its mission is to provide opportunities for college baseball players to develop their skills and give inner city youth a chance to learn the great game of baseball. We’ll be presenting our annual donation to the Grays at their Cigars & Curveballs fundraiser on Thursday, May 16th, at Shelly’s Back Room. Please join us there if you can!
